We have recently implemented a big change to our 5G network infrastructure in Gauteng to provide a more stable connection.
As a result, there might be a few checks and settings changes to make to the router to ensure it gives you the best possible 5G experience.
To get started, log in to the router interface:
- Connect your phone or laptop to the router WiFi. You wont need internet connectivity to do this, just ensure the router is switched on and connected to your device.
- Open up your web browser
- Input this IP number into the URL search bar. IP number: 192.168.8.1
- Log in using your credentials.
- If its your first time logging in, use:
- username = admin
- password = admin
- If you have logged in before but you forgot your password, you would have to do a factory reset to the router. To do this:
- Remover the small screw underneath the router
- With a small pin, press the RTS button for about 10 seconds
- Once reset, all lights should turn green and login credentials will be set back to default.
- If its your first time logging in, use:
Step 1: Check the router model on your router interface:
- On the landing page, please check that the model number is N5368X. It will either be N5368 or N5368X. If it is N5368 only, please contact us with this information, and we will exchange the unit for the newer model. If it is the N5368X, then please move on to step 2.
Step 2: Check if the router has the latest software:
- While still on the landing page, check the software version by looking at the last 3 digits. The latest software is "SPC353". If your router has this version, please move on to step 3.
- If it has any other version for example "SPC330" or "SPC232", do the following to update the software:
- Click on 'Update', on the top left panel.
- Then click on 'Check for update' at the bottom of the page.
- Install the latest update and move on to step 3.
- Note that this may take some time to install. If the operation repeatedly times out, please contact us so we can assist with other options.
Step 3: Make sure the network mode is set to AUTO
- Click on 'Internet' on the top right panel.
- Once the page has loaded, click on 'Network' on the panel below.
- The drop-down under 'Network Mode' should be set on AUTO - if it is, continue to step 4.
- If it is not set, change it to AUTO and click APPLY. You will be prompted to reboot, click OK. Once rebooted, log in again and move on to step 4.
Step 4: Now that your router is ready for the 5G network, you'll need to position it in the best location for the strongest signal.
- Click on 'Home' on the top panel
- Once the page has loaded then, click on 'Network and Internet Info->Detail'.
- On the pop-up, make sure the network type= SA, If it is not SA, you need to move the router around the premises until it picks up 5G signal. It will then display SA as the network type.
- If it is already on SA, please look at the NR signal intensity and quality. Please move the device around the premises while monitoring the signal readings.
- The signal intensity should be as close as possible to the range: -65 to -75. The closer the better.
- The signal quality should be a positive dB value. The higher, the better
If you've done all the steps above and your signal is still poor, please contact us to arrange for a field service agent to come out and assist. If you have received an SMS from us directing you to this link, then please reply on that SMS and we will call you back shortly
